Students enrolled in the Calumet Area Industrial Commission’s (CAIC) Manufacturing Skills & Training Bootcamp recently received the behind the scenes tour of CRRC’s state-of-the-art passenger railcar manufacturing facility in Chicago.

The students, who are all considering careers in manufacturing, had an opportunity to get a first-hand look at how a manufacturing facility works and an understanding of the various types of skilled workers needed to build a passenger railcar. The tour explained how the railcars are built, from receiving the various components from manufacturers across the country and how they are assembled into the 7000 Series passenger railcars.

The Manufacturing Skills & Training Bootcamp prepares individuals for good jobs and college-level programs in manufacturing.

“An essential component of the bootcamp is providing students with an opportunity to actually walk the floor of a manufacturing facility and to meet the people behind the scenes who are transforming intricate concepts and designs into reality on a daily basis,” said Grace Morin, CAIC Business Service Rep. “Having organizations, such as CRRC, who open up their facility to the students and take the time to show them the manufacturing process is something you can’t replicate in a classroom.”

Tours for students are conducted throughout the year. For more information about future opportunities to tour the CRRC facility, e-mail info@crrcchi.com for information.
