About CRRC Sifang America
CRRC Sifang America is an Illinois-based passenger railcar manufacturer headquartered in Chicago. At its state-of-the-art facility on the city’s South Side, the company is manufacturing the Chicago Transit Authority’s 7000 Series railcars.
The facility returned passenger railcar manufacturing to Chicago after a 50-year absence and represents a $100 million investment in the city. Today, CRRC’s skilled workforce is helping build the next generation of railcars for Chicago’s transit system.
Building Chicago’s Railcars
In 2016, the Chicago Transit Authority selected CRRC Sifang America to manufacture its new 7000 Series railcars. CRRC broke ground on its 45-acre manufacturing facility at 13535 S. Torrence Avenue in 2017 and production began in 2019.
The 7000 Series railcars are assembled, inspected and tested in Chicago by employees working across cab assembly, electrical systems, exterior equipment and other specialized areas. The railcars are now in service, carrying CTA passengers throughout the city.

CRRC is creating skilled manufacturing jobs and providing Chicago residents with opportunities to build careers in the rail industry. Its workforce includes professionals in production, engineering, quality, logistics, procurement, administration and other areas supporting railcar manufacturing.
The company works with local unions, educational institutions and workforce-development organizations to recruit, train and prepare employees for careers in advanced manufacturing.
