CHICAGO – CRRC Sifang America received the 2018-2019 “Employer of the Year” award from the China General Chamber of Commerce-Chicago (CGCC) at the 4th annual CGCC Gala in Chicago. The award recognized CRRC’s investment in local hiring, extensive high-tech training for its workforce, and successful effort to return passenger railcar manufacturing jobs to Chicago after a more than 50-year absence.

“CRRC is committed to training our employees to be the next generation of high-level manufacturing professionals,” said Marina Popovic, Human Resources Director & Chief Legal Counsel for CRRC Sifang America. “This recognition highlights CRRC’s investment in people from local communities, its commitment to creating job opportunities and supporting career development for local residents, and its ultimate goal to deliver safe, modern, and reliable passenger railcars for the Chicago Transit Authority.”

CRRC Sifang America currently has more than 80 employees at its new facility on the southeast side of Chicago and plans to hire approximately an additional 90 employees for the second phase of the CTA 7000 Series Railcar Project.

Earlier this year, nineteen electrical and sheet metal workers went to Qingdao, China for a month of in-depth railcar manufacturing training at CRRC’s parent company. In turn, these CRRC employees will be able to train future production employees who will be building Chicago Transit Authority railcars.
