CRRC welcomed recently elected 10th Ward Alderman Peter Chico for his inaugural tour of the 10th Ward manufacturing facility. This tour provided Alderman Chico first-hand opportunities to see the new 7000 Series railcars being produced for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), as well as to speak to CRRC employees – many of whom are local 10th Ward residents.

“We look forward to more conversations with Alderman Chico on CRRC’s role in the local economy and how we can continue to support the 10th Ward,” said Yiguang Geng, CRRC president.

17 CRRC employees currently reside in the 10th Ward, and several employees shared updates with the Alderman on their important contributions to the Series 7000 railcars. Given the 10th Ward’s historic role as a manufacturing center, the tour also gave CRRC the chance to demonstrate the importance of the CRRC facility as an economic incubator for the 10th Ward, bringing railcar manufacturing back to the community.

The tour provided Alderman Chico the opportunity to learn more about the improvements made to this new generation of railcars, including updated screens, auto-leveling technology to avoid gaps between the platform, and enhanced safety features.

CRRC has a robust hiring process that prioritizes 10th Ward residents looking to start or continue their career in railcar manufacturing. They look forward to continuing to work with Alderman Chico on further efforts to hire locally.
